Ingredients:
- 12 oz Hawaiian sweet rolls
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
Instructions:
- Slice the Hawaiian rolls into 1-inch cubes or thick slices and arrange them evenly in a 9x13 inch baking dish or set them aside for pan-frying.
- In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until the mixture is completely smooth.
- Pour the custard mixture evenly over the rolls, gently pressing them down with a spatula to ensure no dry spots remain. Let the bread soak for 30 minutes.
- For casserole style: Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes until the top is mahogany-colored and the center is set. For bite style: Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat and fry soaked cubes for 2-3 minutes per side until golden-brown.
- Serve warm with pure maple syrup.
