Ingredients:

  • 12 oz Hawaiian sweet rolls
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup

Instructions:

  1. Slice the Hawaiian rolls into 1-inch cubes or thick slices and arrange them evenly in a 9x13 inch baking dish or set them aside for pan-frying.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until the mixture is completely smooth.
  3. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the rolls, gently pressing them down with a spatula to ensure no dry spots remain. Let the bread soak for 30 minutes.
  4. For casserole style: Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes until the top is mahogany-colored and the center is set. For bite style: Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat and fry soaked cubes for 2-3 minutes per side until golden-brown.
  5. Serve warm with pure maple syrup.
