Ingredients:

  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp fine sea salt

Instructions:

  1. Place a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat and melt the butter until foaming. Sprinkle in the flour and whisk constantly for 3 minutes until the roux reaches a light peanut butter color.
  2. Reduce heat to medium-low. Slowly pour in the beef broth in 1/2 cup increments, whisking vigorously after each addition to ensure a smooth emulsion and prevent lumps.
  3. Whisk in the Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Increase heat slightly to a gentle simmer for 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon. Season with salt to taste.
